Communities in Bloom is a Canadian non-profit organization committed to fostering civic pride, environmental responsibility and beautification through community involvement and the challenge of a national program, with focus on the enhancement of green spaces in community settings.
“People, plants and pride… growing together” is our slogan, and it captures the essence of the program.
Announced in October of 2015 at Community in Blooms’ annual symposium and awards ceremonies, the following communities are the Canadian 2015 National Winners of their respective categories: along with previous winners, they have now joined the Circle of Excellence . . . and you will greatly enjoy visiting them.

British Columbia
District of West Kelowna & Westbank First Nation
The District of West Kelowna and Westbank First Nation share more than just boundaries, they are truly Partners In Bloom. These rapidly growing communities are situated on the sloping hills of the central west shores of Okanagan Lake. The area was been built on a history of agriculture and its stunning vistas are still dotted with the evidence of this industry with many thriving vineyards and orchards. The communities have blossomed to include urban amenities, residential neighborhoods, and growing commercial services; all nestled amongst scenic mountain terrain and the crystal waters of Okanagan Lake. Truly a four seasons playground, West Kelowna and Westbank First Nation are home to many recreational opportunities from fabulous water activities and golf to an array of winter activities.
City of Maple Ridge
Maple Ridge is a community that has one of the most incredible natural settings in British Columbia. Our southern border is the Fraser River, where our community was founded and neighbourhood names like Port Haney, Port Hammond, Whonnock and Ruskin resonate due to the early settlement along the river which was the lifeblood of the community back in 1874 when we were incorporated. The northern boundary is equally spectacular with the Golden Ears and Coast mountains providing us with breathtaking views year round. This is a great place, by any measure.
City of Trail
Trail is a diverse city built around the mining industry in southern B.C.’s interior mountains. The huge Teck Metals Ltd. smelter complex dwarfs the town and provides a steady income in the industrial sector. Trail cherishes its multi-cultural, mostly Italian, heritage, love for sports and location along the Columbia River. Gyro Park is our showcase featuring a water park, gazebo for summer concerts and much-used beach.
Alberta
Town of Pincher Creek
Thirty minutes north of Waterton Lakes National Park, Pincher Creek has a front-row seat to a marvellous compression of geography; where the foothills meet the Rocky Mountains. The resulting vistas are a rare combination of expansive skies and mountain backdrops.
The Town of Pincher Creek is a vibrant rural community of 3,700 located in the southwestern corner of Alberta. City of Brooks
Brooks is a small city of 13,500 located in south eastern Alberta. The region is classed as semi-arid; without irrigation there would be little agricilture. The CPR introduced irrigation to be able to sell the land. The Brooks Aquaduct (National/Provincal Historic Site) was completed in 1915. The city is supported by oil & gas production & related service industry; agriculture & related production services.
Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo
Fort McMurray is one of Canada’s youngest, fastest growing and most dynamic cities – a close-knit community with an abundance of natural beauty and energy. Known as the major commercial, cultural and recreational centre for the oil sands region, it is also the headquarters of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo.

Saskatchewan
Town of Kinistino
Kinistino is located in north-central Saskatchewan with a population of approximately 800 people. Golden fields of canola, wheat, and barley surround the town. Farming is the main industry. A wide range of recreation facilities and activities are available in Kinistino.
Town of Indian Head
The Indian Head Communities in Bloom Committee is well represented with people from the Horticulture Society, Education, community organizations, and Indian Head Town Council. We have represented Communities in Bloom at many public functions. The Indian Head Communities in Bloom Committee also organizes a spring clean-up day, involving many organizations, volunteers and both our Elementary School and High School picking garbage out of our neighborhood, and landfill. This is annually held on the second weekend in May.

Town of Essex
It’s hard to find another place quite like the Town of Essex. Extending from the centre of Essex County to the northern shores of Lake Erie you can start your morning viewing the history of Essex Centre as depicted on 21 murals, spend the afternoon reliving our past at the Canadian Transportation and Heritage Museum, the Essex County Steam and Gas Engine Museum, Essex Railway Station, or the John R. Park Homestead, and then spend the evening running your toes through the sand at Colchester Harbour.
City of Sarnia
Sarnia is located on the tip of Lake Huron where it’s vast Caribbean Blue waters spill into the narrows of the St. Clair river. Arching high above the river is the impressive Bluewater Bridge that connects Ontario, Canada to Michigan, USA. Sarnia is the largest city on Lake Huron and has miles of shoreline and beautiful beaches.
