Tribute from People’s Republic of China, a great honour
Saturday June 13th, 2015 – A striking bronze dragon fountain will be unveiled at The Butchart Gardens by owner Ms. Robin Clarke and Ms. Sheng Lei, Vice Mayor, City of Suzhou.
The magnificent 2 meter high by 3 meter long bronze and granite sculpture weighing in excess of 2700 kg, is a gift from the People’s Republic of China and the City of Suzhou in conjunction with the 35th anniversary of the Sister-City relationship with the City of Victoria.
“Consul General Madam Liu Fei and Officials from Beijing recognized the long-standing history The Butchart Gardens enjoys with Chinese people locally and within China” said Dave Cowen, General Manager. “The dragon is a universally recognized symbol of China. We are very honoured to accept this magnificent gift and to welcome the Chinese delegation, local dignitaries and special guests on this happy occasion.”

The Butchart Gardens is an internationally renowned 55-acre (22 hectare) display garden located near Victoria, British Columbia. Created in 1904 by Jennie Butchart, and still privately owned and operated by her great granddaughter, The Gardens has been designated a National Historic Site of Canada and welcomes over one million visitors a year.
