Inspired by the pictorial elements in Johann Sebastian Bach’s Suites for Unaccompanied Cello, world renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma worked with internationally acclaimed landscape designer Julie Moir Messervy to interpret, in nature, the music of Bach’s first suite. The result – the Music Garden, a horticultural jewel on Toronto’s waterfront.
Open year-round, the Music Garden can be appreciated on many levels – as a garden infused with the spirit of music, dance and artistic genius; as a public place for young and old alike to enjoy and learn; and as a meditative space in which to sit and quietly ponder nature. It is a symbol of Toronto’s participation in the international community, and a place for everyone to enjoy the great views of Lake Ontario and the Music Garden’s outstanding summer concert series.
